- MCH systems are interdisciplinary in nature. Interdisciplinary practice provides a supportive environment in which the skills and expertise of team members from different disciplines, including families, are seen as essential and synergistic. The expertise of each team member is elicited and valued in making joint outcome-driven decisions to benefit individuals or groups and to solve community or systems problems.
- The “team,” which is the core of interdisciplinary practice, is characterized by mutual respect among disciplines and stakeholders, a sharing of leadership, investment in the team process, and acceptance of responsibility and accountability for outcomes.
Participants will be able to discuss and summarize, team building concepts:
- Stages of team development
- Practices that enhance teamwork
- Managing team dynamics.
- Roles and competencies of individual disciplines.
- Discussion of the interdisciplinary team
- Discussion of (MCHB) interdisciplinary indicators
- Explore the internet for evidence-based articles about the value of interdisciplinary teams
- How would you develop a research study to evaluate this?
- What disciplines and/or professions have been involved in your community project?
- How has this enhanced your community project?
- What challenges have arisen in working with different professions/disciplines?
Participation in Faculty Activities
- Participate in interdisciplinary clinic and division meetings
- Observe the different roles. Are these roles completely separate? Do they overlap? When does the team work well? When does it work less than optimally?
